The Basic Difference Between 5th Wheels And Class A Motorhomes

Written on August 25, 2008 – 3:55 am | by admin |

The choices are numerous and can be overwhelming when trying to decide what the best motorhome is for you and your family to invest in.  Whether you decide to go with the newest recreational vehicle or a used RV, there are still choices of which size of motorhome to decide on.  Variations in motorhomes are far and wide. When trying to decide the most appropriate one, a list of your family’s camping needs compared with a list of what is offered out on the market, is a good way to make the choice.

Although 5th wheels have variations all their own, the basic definition is a trailer hitched to the back of a truck for pulling and vacationing in. The small version of home away from home is hitched inside the middle of the truck bed instead of being hooked on a hitch from the back end of the truck.  The 5th wheel is an amazing miniature beautifully crafted home, but in a much smaller mobile condo on the road. The 5th wheels of today can be average to extravagant. They all are built with the highest quality of materials and some are toned down to the very comfortable basics of home, but the comfortable basics can easily turn into a lot of comfortable extras and amenities.  From the wide screen T.V. to the fireplace and plush bathroom, to the lower priced beautifully practical 5th wheelers, the 5th wheel comparison versus Class A motorhomes can sometimes be hard to decipher until comparing size, price and difference in methods of travel.

With a similar body, design and shape to a spacious bus, Class A motorhomes are built on a specialty designed chassis for motorhomes and may either have engines of gas or diesel.  Many Class A motorhomes have from one to four slide out sections for spacious comfort and room.  The very large mobile home is almost endless in amenities and frills.  The basic Class A motorhome is of the highest quality, even as basic the design may be. But in Comparison of between the 5th wheel Versus Class A motorhome the scale of extra size and the fact that the Class A can not be separated like the 5th wheel can from the original towing vehicle is a big difference between them.

One more last difference in comparison between the 5th Wheel versus Class A motorhome is the beginning price.  The newest basic price of a 5th wheel is at 13,000 while the beginning price of a Class A motorhome is at 56,000.  The differences are there, but your choice lies in several factors of what your budget is and what is most appropriate for your family’s needs.
