A 44-year-old man was charged in connection with a police chase and the attempted hijacking of a construction truck from a vacant lot on Chicago’s North Side over the weekend that left two Chicago police officers injured.

Coba Palmer of the 6400 block of South Langley Avenue was charged with attempted vehicular hijacking, attempted theft, aggravated battery and resisting arrest after the Sunday afternoon chase that ended near Wrightwood and Ashland Avenues, according to Chicago Police Officer Laura Kubiak. Palmer was also cited with driving on a suspended license, driving without insurance and reckless driving.

The incident started at about noon, when a neighbor spotted a man, later identified as Palmer, poking around the fenced construction site where a five-unit apartment building is planned. He was trying to start the smaller of two trucks at the site.
