Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

In 1971 the Dodge Super Bee car moved from the Dodge Cars (Coronet) to the Charger line since the 1971 Coronet was only available in sedan and station wagon models. From 1971, all four-door B-bodies were Coronets and all two-door B-bodies were Chargers. The all new third generation Dodge Charger car was restyled with a new grill and a more rounded bodystyle, hidden headlights were no longer standard, they became optional. . The look of the 1971 Charger was in comparison to the 1968-1970 GTOs.

A rear spoiler and a “Ramcharger” hood were added to the opotion list. A special scoop was mounted in the hood above the air cleaner allowing clean air to go directly into the carguretor by pulling a lever that was placed under the dash. This device was called the “air grabber tool” originally used in Plymouth’s Roadrunner, the Coronet R/T and Super Bees, this was the first it was used on the Charger.

In 1971 only 63 Hemi versions were built, 2,659 were built with other engines. 1971 was the last year for the 426 Hemi “elephant engine”, it was also the end of the 440 Six-Pack engine. 1971 was the one and only year the small block (340 4-bbl) was available in the Super Bee. Although the 440 Magnum (4-bbl) was not an option in the 1971 Super Bee, 26 are known to have been built. With this option the 440 Super Bee walked all over any Ford, Chevy, or GM product on the market.

Small History On Bulldozers

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

A new or used bulldozer for sale is a crawler (caterpillar tracked tractor), equipped with a substantial metal plate (known as a blade), used to push large quantities of soil, sand, rubble, etc, during construction work. The term “bulldozer” is often used to mean any heavy engineering vehicle (frequently loaders and in particular track loaders), but precisely, the term refers only to a tractor (usually tracked) fitted with a dozer blade. That is the meaning used here.

The first bulldozers were adapted from Holt farm tractors that were used to plough fields. Their versatility in soft ground for logging and road building led directly to their becoming the armoured tank in World War I.

In 1923, a young farmer named James Cummings and a draftsman named J. Earl McLeod made the first designs for a bulldozer. A replica is on display at the city park in Morrowville, Kansas where the two built the first bulldozer.

By the 1920s, tracked vehicles became common, particularly the Caterpillar (60). To dig canals, raise earth dams, and do other earthmoving jobs, these tractors were equipped with a large thick metal plate in front. This metal plate (it got its curved shape later) is called a “blade”. The blade peels layers of soil and pushes it forward as the tractor advances. Several specialized blades have been developed for high volume loads such as coal, rakes to remove only larger boulders, or blades with razor sharp edges to cut tree stumps. In some early models the driver sat on top in the open without a cabin. These attachments, home built or by small equipment manufacturers of attachments for wheeled and crawler tractors and trucks, appeared by 1929, widespread acceptance of the bull-grader does not seem to appear before the mid-1930s, and the addition of powered down force made them the preferred new and used excavators for large and small contractors alike by the 1940s, by which time the term “bulldozer” referred to the entire machine and not just the attachment.

The Benefits Of Tonneau Covers In Your Truck

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

New or used pickup trucks for sale and full-size trucks offer a lot of utility to their owners, which is why trucks are such a popular choice in the US auto market. Late model trucks are quite a lot larger than older used truck models, now offering more interior room, hauling ability, comfort, and towing capacity. Although many improvements have been made over the years, there are still two problems that most truck owners face; lack of security in the truck bed and poor fuel economy. Fortunately there is a solution to help resolve these issues.

A truck bed cover is exactly what it sounds like: a cover for the bed of your truck. There are a number of manufacturers; some of the more popular choices are TruXedo and Pace Edwards. Tonneau covers are available in two main flavors; hard and soft. The hard covers are typically made of fiberglass or aluminum. The aluminum tonneau covers are usually a hinged, folding type of cover that is removable, light weight, and allows the owner to quickly open up a large section of the truck bed for use. They provide moderate security and hide anything that may be laying in the truckbed. Fiberglass bed covers, on the other hand, are typically bolted to the truck and tilt up to allow access to the bed. A compromise with this type of cover is a lack of vertical space in the truck bed to use for hauling. More simply put, the fiberglass covers cannot be easily removed and will limit the hauling capacity. The tradeoff is the added security of the fiberglass covers, which will have a keyed locking mechanism and more sturdy construction. There are also soft tono covers, which are available in both roll up and retractable versions. The roll-up type are reinforced soft top tonneau covers which can be rolled back and tied with Velcro straps to allow access to the bed. Retractable tonneau covers are flexible hard-top versions that retract into the included rollup device.

No matter which tonno cover you choose, there should be a slight gain in fuel economy. There have been many studies performed about the aerodynamics of trucks. Although truck models have very different aerodynamic properties, almost every truck might be a used dump truck, utility truck, beverage truck, tow truck etc will experience some drag from air flowing into the tailgate. An increase in vehicle drag implies that the truck must work harder to keep moving, which means an increase in fuel consumption. When a tonneau cover is installed and coving the entire truck bed, it is able to force air over the tailgate and reduce the total amount of drag, thereby increasing fuel economy. However, it is important to remember that a heavy tonneau cover will offset the reduced drag by adding weight to the vehicle. Thus it is more likely to see a gain in fuel economy with a lighter tono cover.

Which tonneau cover is right for you depends on your needs. Some offer better security and weather proof seals while others offer low maintenance and ease of use. Also, some tonneau covers look much nicer than others, so aesthetics is also an important factor to consider when searching for full size or pickup truck bed covers.

Information About Different Van Models

Friday, September 19th, 2008

A large part of the ‘Value for Money’ aspect when it comes to automobiles, vans included, is the mileage. These are the findings according to recently released data:

The Chevrolet Van 1500/2500 2WD, 6 cylinders, 4.3 L, Automatic (4), running on regular gasoline, has a mileage of 15 to 20 mpg depending on city or highway driving. The GMC Savana 1500/2500 2WD 6 cylinder, 4.3 L, Automatic (4), running on regular gasoline, has a mileage of 15 to 20 mpg depending on city or highway driving. The Mazda 5, 4 cylinder, 2.3 L, Manual (5), running on regular gasoline, has a mileage of 20 to 28 mpg. The Mazda 5, 4 cylinder, 2.3 L, Automatic (S5), running on regular gasoline, has a mileage of 21 to 27 mpg.

The Chevrolet Express’ range of options and astounding seating capacity makes it stand out amongst other passenger vans. Being a long time favourite with trades people, and being used for shuttle services, the new Chevrolet Express sticks to its roots. The four models, the 1500, 2500, 3500 and 3500 EXT, can all be designed to be used either as passenger or work vans. Despite not having some of the accessories that its counterparts do, it does the job of moving lots of people and cargo alike. The Express can accommodate up to 15 people and has six options when it comes to the engine. The interior is made up of tough plastic and cloth, with fine finishing, and the controls are simple and straightforward.

The GMC Savana, too, has a range of options when it comes to the engine. Available in the 1500, 2500 and 3500 versions, each has a separate Cargo and Passenger version. The Cargo 2500 and 3500 and the Passenger 3500 come with extended wheelbases. Dull interiors, and a below par capacity when it comes to cargo space, are deterrent factors. With a trustworthy cutaway chassis though, the Savana serves well as a cargo van and a passenger van for personal use. Its factors of comfort, strength and ability to tow trailers along, are added feathers in its cap. The Mazda 5, a true mini-van at heart, has the versatility to move between a cargo set-up and minivan-like seating. One of the most affordable vehicles in its class, what it lacks is the zing that is usually associated with Mazda engines. A new automatic transmission (5 speed) along with an auxiliary input jack that connects music players to the car stereo are in place in the new Mazda 5. Available in the Touring, Grand Touring and Sport versions, they all have same four cylinder engines and are built on Ford’s C1-platform. With a small turning radius, parking too is made easier.

The Ford Econoline has offers good value for money. Despite there being no change in design since 1996, the roomy interior and a range of engine options to choose from make this an interesting option. The E-150 XL and XLT are the passenger van options and can seat 7 to 8 passengers. The E-350 models, mainly designed for commercial use, are more powerful and can carry up to 15 people in the model with the extended length. The interiors and the safety features though can have one wanting something better.

Irrespective of the choice made while buying a van, one aspect that needs to be looked at is the van insurance policy.By looking at all the factors you’ll find your van selection that whole lot more easier.

Introduction To Sabre Planes

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

The F-86 Sabre Jet was a line of airplanes used first during the Korean War. There were several different models that served two different functions. One type was designed to be a war plane or low-level bomber. The other type was designed to be interceptors that were adept in all sorts of climates and conditions. Across the board, these were high-speed planes, capable of traveling up to 650 miles per hour. Over a six-year period several models of the Sabre held world speed records.

U.S. production of the F-86 Sabre Jet discontinued in 1956. Not before the line set several more speed records, and proved itself a battle worthy fighter plane. Many consider this the best war plane of its age.

The F-86 Sabre Jet introduced several new technologies to airplane manufacturing. These included speed brakes, powered controls, pressurized cockpits to name a few. Pilots who flew this plane claim its engineering was second to none, even going so far as to suggest an intuitive relationship between pilot and plane. These planes are often compared to the Russian MiG planes of the time. In many ways they were known to out perform MiGs. They had an amazing ability to climb quickly, and dive even faster. Many consider this the only airplane capable of taking on the Russian MiG aircraft.

Aircraft illustrations show you the unique features of this amazing machine. You can also view these new or used airplanes at flight museums, private collections, and special air shows around the country. Most of these locations offer aircraft merchandise so you can take home something to remind you of Sabre airplanes and the brave men who flew them.
