The Muscle Car Enthusiasm

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Have you ever heard of a car with muscles? Yes muscle cars, they are in a breed of their own with extremely powerful torque and high horse power capability. First thing that you’ll notice of these exotic cars is their bulky curves and high-performance  rated tires for which muscle cars are very much known. Muscle cars were giants of the drag racing world way back in 1960’s till early part of 1980’s. Powered by V8 engine and special trim intended for maximum torque, these cars dominated the 50’s – 70’s era, with every man dreaming of owning a muscle car. Even females couldn’t resist its looks, when a vintage car passed by. Muscle cars are totally different with supreme torque that can take down any of today’s sports cars and with elegant interiors; they make a personal style statement of their own. So next time when you hit the gas in a muscle car; be ready for a jaw-dropping ride!!!

The term ‘Muscle car’ perhaps makes very little sense to a layman. But to an auto enthusiast, it means a world of things. ‘Car’ itself is a term that has varied levels of significance to different people. To some it is merely a mode of transportation, to others it is equivalent to a family member. But to a car enthusiast it implies everything. A common joke about auto enthusiasts goes like this. For the world ‘Where there is a will, there is a way’, but for car enthusiasts it is ‘Where there is a wheel, there is a way.’

If the general notion is that muscle car enthusiasts are by-products of modern-day cars, then that’s a mistake. Enthusiasm for muscle cars was born as early as the 60s when pioneers like Delorean created the muscle car revolution in the United States by designing the GTO, a muscle car, that’s the favorite of many even today. His creative ideas were responsible for many innovations in the later years. Today’s sports car industry would have been so different if not for this era of performance cars.

For any auto enthusiast today, there is a wide range of car photos and videos to view on the web. And with advertisers finding a new arena to explore on the internet, there are even virtual automobile showrooms for potential buyers, offering details about the models, features and best deals available. The internet is truly a boon to car enthusiasts who can get just what they want!

The Importance Of Matting The Floor Of Your Truck

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Floor mats are one of the most practical accessories that you can get for your pickup truck. Mats don’t only add style to the interior of your truck, they also keep your factory carpet clean. Truck mats come in a varied range of colors and materials to choose from. Whether you’re looking for an automobile mat with a traditional look, or a waterproof rubber floor mat, rest assured that we have searched the internet to find the best places to shop for your truck’s mats.

Matting the floor of your car or truck gives an altogether new look to your vehicle. It also makes a style statement. Putting a mat in your car, truck, or SUV makes your vehicle more personalized for your taste, and it increases your vehicle’s value.

Top line flooring is sturdy enough to guard your carpet from a myriad of stain causing materials, and the rubber material used in most high quality mats is resistant to a wide range of dirt, grime, temperature variations, and weather conditions. For example, the mats from WeatherTech have a soft rubber upper tread that provides traction without being uncomfortable on a truck owner’s feet.

Catch-All mats are another type of mat for your truck floors that have excellent features like a plastic-welded kick plate on the driver’s side, a heavily stitched outer seam, anti-drag eyelet, and a slide-resistant studded grip pad underneath that matches a custom-made rubberized lower layer which is environment-resistant. Raised outer lips provide protection for your truck’s interior from water, mud, and dirt.

Similarly, Heavy-Duty mats from Husky are made of patented rubberized thermoplastic vinyl, which makes them resistant to a wide range of temperatures. These mats also protect your carpets and floors from other automotive chemicals, such as oil, gasoline, and battery acid. Apart from having these properties, WeatherTech mats are also molded with an extra-tall raised lip for greater moisture and dirt retention. The driver’s mat heel pad is also extra-thick to take on the pressure of a trucker’s feet. It is important to remember that mats and floor liners are available as semi-custom mats and as custom made mats. Now, you might be wondering what is the big difference between these two? As evident by the name, a custom-made mat is made specifically to cater to your needs, as well as the needs of your truck. Actually, most people find a custom-made mat to be better fitting than what is provided by the manufacturer because what the manufacturer provides you along with your truck is not a custom-made mat, but a standard mat to fit in all their vehicles.

The flooring mats from Husky and Weathertech that are discussed above are semi-custom mats. That does not mean that these mats come in a standard size for all the vehicles, but instead are fitted in Ford trucks, Dodge trucks, Chevy trucks, GMC trucks, Nissan trucks etc. Both of these companies offer these mats in such a large number of different patterns that you’ll find one that fits your truck exactly.

There are all kinds of mats that are available for your truck’s floor. Mats that are suited for all kinds of weather and other conditions are known as All-Weather mats. All-Weather Mats are made up of rubber, or floor liners that have nicks and grooves, which can trap water, snow, mud, dirt, and any other substance that might get tracked into the floor of your truck. The rubber flooring is more durable and maintains the same appearance even after years of usage which means your carpet will still look great after many miles of use. It is easier to maintain and clean these mats as all one needs to do is to spray them with a hose. Try that while trying to clean your truck’s carpet and you will end up all wet.

Equipments Needed In All Types Of Construction Work

Friday, August 29th, 2008

There is a vast variety in the kind of equipment used in construction depending on the type of construction. Both light and heavy construction tools are used for different types of jobs. Similarly, there is a difference in the equipment used in road construction, building construction, industrial construction, forest construction or underwater construction.

Cranes, forklifts, bulldozers and tractors are the most needed equipment in almost all kinds of construction. Both cranes and forklifts are used to lift loads and transfer them from one point to another. The difference is that cranes are generally used to move rubble, while forklifts can lift crates or delicate but heavy materials. Bulldozer equipment used for ramming into structures and mowing them down. Tractors are heavy motorized vehicles that can be used to tug along trailers or wagons carrying loads. There are different kinds of tractors depending on whether they are used for road construction, farm work or industrial construction.

Besides these, construction requires hundreds of different kinds of equipment. Scrapers, plows, excavators, drills, are all different components of the construction equipment. Use of such heavy equipment requires a license from the municipal authorities. Licenses are not given to construction companies if they do not provide safety standards to the operators of their equipment.

Construction equipment is costly. Most companies have their own equipment; however, some companies hire equipment or buy used equipment at lower rates.

Since the 1970s, Bobcat has been a pioneer in manufacturing construction equipment. Bobcat is a brand of the Melroe Manufacturing Company, which was established in 1947. This company invented the skid-steer loader, which was also termed as Bobcat. The skid-steer loader is a vehicle moving on four wheels and two levers that allow it to steer in a full circle. It is a perfect solution to manage heavy loads in compact spaces. Apart from the skid-steer loader, other Bobcat equipment includes mini-space excavators, compact track loaders and backhoes.

Popular heavy equipment brands include Volvo, Hitachi, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Terex, etc. Each of them has their unique quality equipments, which they continually keep on perfecting.

Business Boosts Up Due To Heavy Equipment Financing

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

While some businesses might be able to get away with only a basic office set up, some require very specialized equipment that can be difficult for start up companies to afford. When a need for heavy equipment is present, there are a number of options, including occasional rentals, long-term leases and outright purchases. It’s the outright purchases that can be tricky, but financing can help.

Whether it’s a backhoe, earthmover, steam roller or loader, it is needed to make a business get its jobs done, or a combination of it all, financing can be key in ensuring the equipment in inventory is the best and safest possible. With a smart business loan, a company can ensure they have the right equipment to perform the necessary tasks without having to settle for a machine that might not perform up to par.

When it comes to heavy equipment purchases, businesses that need them have a few obligations not only to their customers and their bottom line, but also to their employees, to address in any purchase. Whether new or used equipments, they should be solid, offer safety features and must be in good repair. What’s jeopardized otherwise is reliability and more importantly employee safety.

Pick out a few different styles and makes and research them before heading to the bank. Have a few top choices in mind with a favorite, of course. Make sure the machines you’re looking at have a good track record for performance, reliability and safety.

Now it’s time to shop for loans. A good business loan will enable even a start up company to have the necessary equipment to get the job done. Shop different loan opportunities and look for those that offer good interest rates and also a decent payoff set up. Simple interest loans are the best because they can be paid off earlier, at a lower overall payment amount, without penalty. This can be very important for a small business. Getting rid of interest loans earlier can make a big difference in the bottom line.

Remember, when you approach banks, you’ll want to not only know what types of machinery you need to buy, but also show how they will help you make money and increase your business’ profits. Your business plan, financial records, information about the equipment and more might be needed to close the loan.

Getting a business loan can be a scary undertaking, especially for a first-time borrower, but they can make all the difference in the world for a start up. If the needed equipment isn’t available for a new company, the chances for success in business are minimal. While rentals will help get the business off the ground, they’re generally not good long-term solutions. Plus, outright purchases through loans come with other benefits for a business, too.

The Evergrowing Success Of Honda Cars

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

While other automakers scramble to downsize their vehicles, Honda Motor just keeps reloading its lineup of fuel-efficient, small cars.

The hottest auto company in the United States, Honda is about to shift into an even higher gear with its introduction of a new versionof the Fit subcompact. Sales of the current edition of the Fit have increased a stunning 79 percent this year as part of the broader trend by consumers away from larger, gas-guzzling vehicles. But with its new Fit, which gets 34 miles per gallon, or about 7 liters per 100 kilometers, in highway driving, Honda is further burnishing its reputation as the automaker best prepared to capitalize on a rapidly changing market.

Honda’s U.S. sales are up 3 percent this year in a market that has fallen 11 percent. By comparison, General Motors’ sales are down nearly 18 percent, Ford Motor has dropped 14 percent, and Toyota has decreased 7 percent. The success of Honda has been simple. While its rivals choke on huge inventories of unsold trucks and sport utility vehicles, small Honda cars are flying out of dealer showrooms.

It is not just the Fit, a quirky hatchback with a four-cylinder engine, that is captivating fuel-conscious consumers. Sales of the Civic compact have risen 16 percent, and sales of the Accord, Honda’s flagship mid-sized sedan, are up 14 percent.

After posting losses of billions of dollars in the first half of this year, GM and Ford are sharply accelerating their development of new small smart cars that better suit consumers worried about high gas prices.

Even Toyota, Honda’s much larger Japanese rival, is cutting back on production of pickups and large sport utility vehicles and hustling to bring more of its passenger cars to the United States market.

Honda’s laser-sharp focus on fuel-efficient cars dates back 20 years, and reflects its heritage as an engineering-driven company.Honda’s approach seems almost clairvoyant, given how the American market shifted so drastically away from larger vehicles this spring.

Last year, Toyota opened its newest North American plant in Texas to produce full-size pickups. By contrast, Honda will open its latest American plant this fall in Indiana to build Civics.

No vehicle better illustrates Honda’s grasp of the current market conditions than the Fit.
In fact, Honda was running so short of Fits in the United States that it accelerated the launch of the new 2009 model by two months. Honda’s commitment to fuel efficiency is also reflected in its plans for the future. While it sells hybrid, gas-electric versions of its luxurious cars -Civic and Accord, Honda will bring out two new hybrids in the next 18 months, including a sporty two-seat model.

Introduction To The Cessna 550 Citation Jet

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Cessna 550 Citation Jet is a twin-engine business class jet aircraft. It forms part of the Citation series of aircrafts brought out by Cessna which were initially characterized by twin turbo-powered engines and straight wings. The jets of Cessna Citation series have long been the mainstay of corporate air travel in the United States.

The Cessna 550 Citation was another name of the Citation II series developed by Cessna in order to improve upon its Citation I aircrafts. The latter had proved to be successful in the market of business jets with its turbo-fan engines and ability to take off from smaller airfields. The Citation II improved on the previous version with a greater seating capacity of a maximum of ten passengers.

The Cessna 550 Citation aircraft also acquired a more powerful engine compared to the Citation I. Citation II was equipped with JT15D4 engines which gave it a greater speed as well as longer range. The aircraft made its debut flight on January 31, 1977 and around a year later in March 1978, it received its certification for two-pilot operation.

An upgraded version of the Cessna 550 Citation II was the Model 551 which came to be known as the Citation II S/P. the latter was developed to compete in the Turbo-prop segment as most of the turbo-prop aircrafts were flown by single pilots. Yet another improved variant was the Model S550 Citation S/II which employed a more powerful engine of the JT15D4B class. Other than that it also had an upgraded design which gave it superior aerodynamics.

The Cessna 550 Citation II has found uses in other fields as well. It has been acquired by the Aircrafts Operation Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to aid in the acquiring of remote sensing imagery. The Citation II has had thirteen Hull-loss accidents with a total of thirty five fatalities. While it does not have any history of hijackings or other criminal occurrences, Citation II has had thirteen occasions of other types of hull-loss occurrences without any fatalities.

Vintage Cars To Low Riders And Hot Rods

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Lowriders are classic cars or trucks whose suspension system has been modified so that it rides at a very low level to the ground. With the use of modern day hydraulics, users have height adjustable suspension. Most of the lowriders are vintage cars of the 1940’s to 1960’s.

Lowering cars to almost the sidewalk level and customizing them dramatically has been a status symbol. Lowriders signify prestige. In the 1940’s people had to wait for Sundays to catch a glimpse of a Lowrider. Soon enough Lowriders became a trademark for anyone seeking for attention or for someone cruising highways day after day.

Creating a lowrider is an art that’s evolved from using heavy weights and chopping springs to bring the body close to the ground; to modern day hydraulics that raise and lower the car, and also make it hop, and tilt it from side to side. Lowriders are designed with triple dipped chrome accessories, gold plating, stunning paint schemes, twin side pipes, spot lights, wire wheels, spinners and more. One can see a lot of vehicle makes, visual styles and a diverse mix of cultures in lowriders. A lowrider’s internal parts are more likely to get damaged from road surface imperfections and obstructions.

Traditional low riders were made from cars of the 1960’s like Chevy Impala, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Lincoln Continentals, and Pontiac Grand Prix. At times they are radically modified reducing them to pure show cars.

Hot rods, the typical American cars with large engines modified for linear speed are a compelling blend of vintage exotic cars and today’s high performance engines. Car owners modify their production car in the attempt to increase acceleration and top end speed. For most Americans restoring their vintage cars as hot rods is more of a national sport.

The vintage cars of the 40’s to 60’s still have the potential to turn heads and that’s why there’s so much craze for hot rods. The traditional hot rodding concept was based on reusing original, old parts from the junkyard and remanufacturing cars that were popular from the 1940s through the 1960s. But the antique Street Rod is based on building or getting cars built with new parts.

Hot rods have an abundance of chrome parts, they fatten up the tires for extra traction, engine is modified and some body panels are removed. Most hot rods are typically painted with a design of flames behind the front wheels. A typical hot rod is heavily modified by replacing the engine and transmission, a few other components, including brakes and steering. Building a hot rod requires skills in mechanics, welding, automotive paint and body work.

While modifying a vintage car to a hot rod – one of the things is to reduce the weight of the vehicle by removing certain parts. That’s why hot rods have minimalistic chassis with no roof, hood, bumpers, seats, windscreens or fenders. Sometimes the original engines are replaced by high speed ones. Hot rodding is an art work that replenishes the golden past with the present day high speed performance. Hot rod catered to the rebellion and attention seeking needs of American teenagers. The modifications of hot rods are a vent to the frustrations of conventional styling. Hot rods are a display of American pride.

Two sport bike Bestsellers Square Off.

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

HIGH-REVVING sport bikes tend to rattle cages. If it isn’t the high-pitched scream of their pipes, it’s the exposed skin and mohawked helmets of their riders that make drivers jump out of their bucket seats.

Powered with high-octane gas and run on seemingly higher levels of testosterone, the 600 cc class accounts for more than half of the supersport bikes sold in the U.S. It’s a highly competitive segment – one that doesn’t just put a premium on “fast” but on fast-paced, every-other-year overhauls to keep up with the market’s expectations for trickle-down-from-the-track technologies and performance.

For 2008, the fight is between the sport bike bestsellers for Suzuki and Yamaha: the GSX-R600 and the YZF-R6. The two bikes have been locked in karmic battle since 2006, when they fell into the same reinvention schedule, pitting Suzuki against Yamaha on the even model years, just as Honda has been set up against Kawasaki to swirl nunchucks on the odd.

Commuting is the No. 1 use for 600 cc sport bikes. Even so, the racetrack is where both bikes are designed to shine. The GSX-R just adds a little more user-friendliness to the mix, whereas the YZF-R6 requires a little more finesse to access its powers.

Yamaha YZF-R6

“Razor-sharp handling” was the MO for this year’s R6 update, which, again, responds to the bike’s demographics. Because R6 riders tend to be slightly older (30), more experienced (nine years riding) and more inclined toward the track than the average 600 cc sport bike buyer, that’s where Yamaha’s taken its redesign.

Yamaha’s direction for the 9-year-old R6 is the opposite of the Gixxer’s. It’s become even more tunnel-visioned on the track. Where the Gixxer focuses on the bottom to middle of its power band, the R6 sets its sights on the middle and the top – increasing the bike’s midrange pull and upper-end power with the help of new pistons that increase the engine’s compression ratio and a set of secondary fuel injectors that kick in at 6,000 rpm.

The biggest difference for me with the R6 versus the Gixxer is the throttle. It takes more skill and a real mastery of the friction zone to avoid over-revving on takeoff. Just 28% of R6 riders buy the bike as their first, but its primary use is commuting, which requires a lot of stops and starts, so newbies should beware.

Although more than 50 changes were made to the R6 engine, the most noticeable differences with the bike are in the chassis, which features a Yamaha first: The die-cast subframe is magnesium, which has a greater strength-to-weight ratio than the aluminum used on previous R6 models. The suspension is also modified to be more minutely adjustable, including the ride height.

The R6 is lightweight, responsive, flickable, yada yada – but riders will want to keep moving because the engine throws some heat. After some serious canyon carving, my left leg got so hot I was almost inclined to try stunting. I wanted to stand on the saddle.
